Adam Manzano (27), a young Kansas City sports reporter covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans for Telemundo and Tico Sports, was found dead on Wednesday in a hotel.

He was originally from Mexico City but later moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 2018. Adam Manzano was a widower, as his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, died in a crash in April 2024. They are both survived by their young toddler daughter, who survived the accident.

Statement from the general manager of KGKC Telemundo Kansas City on the death of Adam Manzano

KGKC Telemundo Kansas City’s general manager, Steve Downing, said: "We will deeply miss Adam and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community”, while Tico Sports president, CiCi Rojas, called him an “enthusiastic and energetic team player who was well-liked and respected”.

While both KGKC Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports did not specify a cause of death, they said they are cooperating with law enforcement as the death is investigated.

This was supposed to be Manzano’s third Super Bowl coverage, as he had been with Telemundo since April 2021.

A new suspect

Danette Colbert, of Slidell, Louisiana, was arrested by Kenner police. She is currently being charged with property crimes and has a connection to Adam Manzano’s death, as she was allegedly using his credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area.

There is also reportedly video footage of Danette Colbert at Manzano’s hotel the morning of his death. Additionally, she has a prior arrest record that includes allegations of drugging men, theft of currency, and fraudulent credit and debit card use, among other financial crimes.
