A Georgia congressman is reigniting one of former President Donald Trump’s most controversial proposals—purchasing Greenland. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) introduced a bill that would authorize Trump to negotiate the acquisition of the Arctic island from Denmark and rename it “Red, White, and Blueland”.
The proposal, however, faces strong opposition from Greenlandic and Danish leaders, who have repeatedly dismissed the idea. Despite the resistance, Trump and his allies argue that U.S. control over Greenland is a national security priority due to its strategic location and natural resources.

Carter’s Proposal
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2015, said, "America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland". "President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal."
Trump’s Renewed Interest in Greenland
During the electoral campaign for the nation’s 47th president, Trump revived discussions from his first term about purchasing Greenland from Denmark. On his Truth Social account, a social media by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), he wrote: "For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity".
However, Greenland’s leadership has firmly rejected Trump’s proposal. Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede dismissed the idea, stating: "Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our years-long fight for freedom".
Trump’s Expanding Vision
In early January, Trump indicated he would consider using military force to secure control of both Greenland and the Panama Canal, emphasizing their importance to U.S. national security.
The bill, while unlikely to pass, signals the ongoing push among Trump-aligned Republicans for an era of expanded American influence. Greenland is just one of the many territories Trump's administration is pushing for ownership. Among the list, we can find: The Panama Canal" and "The Gulf of Mexico".
