At 39, Ronaldo is still a strong player, breaking records and showing his long career. He is the highest-scoring male footballer in history, with 923 goals. His latest performance included two goals in Al Nassr’s 4-0 win over Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League.

Despite constant comparisons to Lionel Messi, Pelé, and Diego Maradona, Ronaldo believes his versatility sets him apart. He argues that numbers back up his claim, highlighting his ability to score with both feet, headers, penalties, and free kicks.

"It’s all about numbers," says Ronaldo

Ronaldo holds the record as the highest-scoring male footballer in history, with 923 goals. His latest came in Al Nassr's 4-0 win over Al Wasl. In an interview with El Chiringuito, he defended his claim to being the best.

“Who’s the best goal scorer in history? It’s about numbers. Full stop,” he said. He pointed out that he ranks among the best in headers, left-footed goals, penalties, and free kicks. “I do everything well—headers, free kicks, left foot. I’m fast, I’m strong,” he added.

"That said, Messi is great, but I believe I’m the most complete player. If you like Messi, Pelé, or Maradona, I respect that. But no one is more complete than me. I’ve never seen anyone better, and I say this from the heart."

CR7 also defended the Saudi Pro League, where he currently plays. “People talk without knowing,” he said, arguing that leagues like Major League Soccer receive more respect despite being weaker.

Does Ronaldo has plans to retire soon?

Even though he’s 39, Ronaldo isn’t thinking about retiring. “I’m so competitive that sometimes I forget what I’ve achieved,” he said. He believes his drive sets him apart, saying that most players in his position would have retired years ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made it clear that he plans to play in the 2026 World Cup. The portuguese forward remains determined to represent Portugal on the world stage once again and he’s determined to help his team succeed in this tournament.

For now, we will continue to see Cristiano Ronaldo on the field for more years, with the object of reaching 1,000 goals
