Paraguayan forward, Miguel Almirón, has made a celebrated return to Major League Soccer's Atlanta United after a six-year tenure with Newcastle United in the English Premier League. Almirón, now 30, has signed a contract extending through 2027, with an option for an additional year. His initial move to Newcastle in 2019 was for a then-club-record fee of £21 million.
Almirón's Impactful Stint at Newcastle United
During his time with Newcastle, Almirón made 223 appearances, netting 30 goals and providing 12 assists. His standout season came in 2022-23 season, where he scored 11 goals, playing a pivotal role in securing a fourth-place Premier League finish and a coveted Champions League spot for the Magpies.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Miggy for everything he has given us during our time together,” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said in a statement released by the club. “He has been the quintessential professional and has been a big part of some of our most memorable moments in recent seasons.”
Returning to Atlanta United, where he previously amassed 22 goals and 32 assists in 70 appearances, Almirón is expected to bolster the team's attacking prowess. His leadership and experience are anticipated to be invaluable assets as Atlanta United aims for further success in the MLS.

In his first statements as a new Atlanta United player, Miguel Almirón said he was happy to be back home and thanked the Five Stripes' management for making his return to MLS possible.
“I am happy to return to Atlanta United, a club and a city that have always had a special place in my heart. I am grateful to Arthur M. Blank and the entire organization for the opportunity and I look forward to meeting the fans at Mercedes Benz Stadium and creating more moments of joy together,” explained Almirón on his return to the club with which he won the MLS Cup.
