Warner Bros. has released the first teaser for Final Destination: Bloodlines, set to hit theaters and IMAX on May 16. The last installment, Final Destination 5, premiered in August 2011, making this the sixth film in the series, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

Details about the new film

Final Destination: Bloodlines follows Stefanie, played by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, as she searches for the only person who might be able to stop the cycle that has led her family members to premature deaths. The cast also includes Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and the deceased Tony Todd. "My old man just died, I came in as a favor, and now they want me to lock up," complains a tattoo artist named Harmon in the trailer, right before things go terribly wrong in his shop.

With the tagline ‘Death runs in the family’, Final Destination: Bloodlines suggests a deeper exploration of fate and its generational impact, a twist that sets this instalment apart from its predecessors, as producer Craig Perry told Digital Spy in 2020, that the film would focus on first responders, who have to deal with death on a daily basis. However, it seems that in the end, it was decided to take a different route.

"We are playing with the idea that it takes place in the world of first responders: paramedics, firefighters and police officers. These people face death on the front line every day and make decisions that can make or break people's lives. We rely on their judgment, their experience, and their composure. So why not put these people in the nightmare situation where every choice can mean life or death, but now for themselves," Perry said at the time.

How did the franchise 'Final Destination' begin?

For this sixth installment, Lipovsky and Stein directed the film from a script by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, with Jon Watts credited for the story. Producers include Watts, Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich.

The franchise began in 2000 with director James Wong's Final Destination, where a teenager, played by Devon Sawa, helps his classmates avoid death after having a premonition of their plane crashing, only for them to face gruesome fates soon after. With a cast that also included Ali Larter and Kerr Smith, the first Final Destination grossed $112 million worldwide, which would amount to $205 million today.
