Scarlett Johansson was left “genuinely shocked” after hearing some risqué jokes her husband, Colin Jost, made about her during a recent episode of Saturday Night Live. The jokes, which aired during the Christmas special, were part of the "joke swap" segment on Weekend Update, where Jost and his co-host, Michael Che, read each other’s unvetted jokes live on air.

Jost revealed Johansson’s reaction during an appearance on The Tonight Show, explaining that while he had warned her in advance about the nature of the jokes, the specifics caught her off guard. Despite her initial surprise, Johansson handled the situation with her signature humor and grace, showing support for her husband’s comedic craft.

"Scarlett was genuinely so shocked"

Colin Jost appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where the host asked if he had any trouble with her wife, Scarlett Johansson.

"I'm in trouble, I think, with a lot of people" Jost, quipped, noting, "Scarlett was genuinely so shocked".

He explained that although he hadn’t reviewed the jokes beforehand, the SNL team had given his wife a warning about the explicit nature of the content.

“They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’” Jost shared. “She was like, ‘Sure, whatever, I’m open to it.’ I didn’t know where it was going.”

"Scarlett was backstage like, 'Oh my god, that's what it is!’” Jost laughed, adding that his response to the whole exchange was genuine. "I can't act that well".

The Joke Swap that took SNL by Storm

The "joke swap" is a highly anticipated segment on SNL, known for its unpredictable and often edgy humor. This time, Che wrote a particularly bold joke referencing Johansson, which Jost had to read live on air. The joke included an explicit comparison involving a roast beef sandwich, which immediately drew gasps and laughter from the audience.

“I wanna dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost read. “Hey, boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means, I’m about to get up out of there.”

Jost admitted that while Johansson had been given a heads-up about being part of the segment, she wasn’t prepared for the exact content of the joke. “She was genuinely so shocked,” Jost shared, laughing about her reaction. “But that’s the magic of live TV.”

Despite her initial surprise, Johansson handled the joke with good humor. Known for her quick wit and charm, she reportedly laughed it off and even appreciated the spontaneity of the moment. Jost praised her ability to roll with the punches, calling her a great sport.

A relationship built on humour and support

Johansson and Jost have become one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, thanks in part to their shared sense of humor and unwavering support for each other. They married in an intimate ceremony during the pandemic and welcomed their son, Cosmo, in 2021.

Jost’s comedic career and Johansson’s status as a Hollywood star often intersect in moments like this, giving fans a glimpse into their relationship. Whether it’s Johansson supporting Colin Jost’s SNL antics or Jost celebrating her accomplishments, the couple continues to charm their audience with their candid and playful interactions.
